Could you describe the technique you used to create the light beam blasts?
The results are incredible!

Using Photoshop (a very old version too):
1)draw a very light blue line about 10 pixels thick
2)use smudge (finger) tool set to "Lighten Only" and 75% pressure.
3)smudge outward from the line, like making little light streaks at about
45 degrees to the beam, like tongues of plasma.
4)draw a lighter thinner line over the first one, repeat the smudging.
5) finally draw a central white line one pixel thick (the super intense part
of the beam) and do some more smudging.
6)select the beam with a lasso and do a 20 to 50 pixel directional blur
on it along the firing axis.
7)smudge out any edge artifacts caused by the lasso blur.
8)there is no step 8
