I am glad someone replied to this thread and I found it again.  There is a
small difference between

<http://machine.domain.tld/somefile/>

and

<URL:http://machine.domain.tld/somefile/>

One registers in some news readers, and one doesn't.  You can click and go
on the first one, but not on the second.  Use of the first one is preferred
by me.  If you want to make sure of a URL and trailing punctuation... just
put it on its own line.

Just a small nit form a lazy guy who doesn't like to select the correct
portion of

<URL:http://machine.domain.tld/somefile/>

and past into my browser.

(...) Really? This has my quite surprised, as the second one is actually the proposed standard according to RFC 1738. It is supposed give the UAs a better chance of distinguishing between URLs and other data structures in plain text. It is also (...) (26 years ago, 3-Dec-98, to lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.publish)
