- The gun deck has 3 gun ports on each side (part of my motivation is to
run Steve Jackson's Pirate Game, a BSB size ship will mount 7 cannon,
with the side firing cannon being able to be moved from side to side as
I understand - this is something I'm not absolutely clear on).

There's no real addressing of cannon on swivel/slides in the rules. • Clearly it
is an advantage, but this may be something he handles in person or doesn't
worry about (minimaxer that I am, I do).

I should have mentioned that I asked Steve a question about cannon a few
months ago... Oh, I just dug into the exchange and found more info...

Here is the response to my first e-mail:

How do you tend to arm your ships? The stock ships have a variety of • mounts:

- fixed position firing through gun port (ala 6285 BSB)

I never use that, because it can fire only to one side.

- on sliding/rotating platform firing through gun port (ala 6286 SES)
- on sliding platform (ala 6289 RBR)

I use both those for broadside mounts.

- on turret firing over side (6250, 6280)

I use a lot of those for non-broadside mounts.

So from this, we can take that broadside firing cannon may be switched from
side to side. That e-mail didn't establish how Steve decided how many turret
mounted cannon a ship would have, so his response to my second e-mail
follows:

Well, per game rules, the max number of cannon is equal to the Class of • the
ship.

I always give each ship at least one fully rotating gun. No ship has more
than 5 guns in broadside. So big ships have 3 rotators and 4 broadside, or
2 rotators and 5 broadside.

So there you have it. One to three turret mounted cannon (he didn't really
address class 8 ships, but I don't think he really uses them).
