I have finally finished my silver cannons for a ship I am planning to make in

It was not my idea, I was inspired by Tom Reed's creation "Booming Betty":

Now as soon as I saw his cannon, I wanted to make one too.
I searched for months to find some of those chrome 2x2 round bricks.
Finally I found a bunch on eBay and snatched them right up right away.
I finally decided to make two cannons because hey, two is always better than
one, especially when it comes to cannons.
So I then started searching for silver belville buckets.
I could not find any bricklink store that sold more than one, and I never saw
any on eBay ever.
Finally, a little more than a month ago, I found a store which sold two, and
bought them right away.
I took Tom's idea a little further, and instead of having grey pieces on the
back of it, I was determined to find a way to make it completely silver.
Here's what I came up with. I'm very happy with it...

I know the base for it doesn't look great, but there's a reason I made it like
that, which you will see when I make the ship. It has it's purpose.

Now, you're probably wondering how I made the back all silver.
What I did was take a lightsaber, with the blade in the small x-shaped end, and
put two of those chrome pieces often used as headlights over it, then slid a 2x2
chrome radar dish over the blade. Then I put a chrome 2x2 round brick over that,
built the base part and then added the rest of the chrome bricks and bucket with
a technic bar piece going through the middle of it all, which makes it very very
strong.

I can hold onto the end and hit the cannon against my mousepad and nothing comes
loose or breaks off at all.
After there was success with the first I made the second one.
So now they're just sitting around my room until I start the ship...

Let me know what you think.

Daniel

PS Thanks for the idea, Tom.
Hey Daniel,
I'm so glad you liked my cannon idea and used it in creating your own!  Thanks
for mentioning me and linking my website.  I like your all silver cannon.  I'm
looking forward to seeing them in your ship.
Those parts are really tough to find, so I'm glad you were able to run across
some.  I sure wish Lego would put them out again in another set.  I'd also like
to get the bucket parts in other colors like black and dark grey.
You've inspired me to play around and see if I can come up with a all silver
version too.  I'll let you know if I come up with anything of interest.
take care,
Tom

(...) No problem, Tommyboy. I really like all of the creations on your site. You and Richie probably make some of my favorite Pirate MOC's on the whole internet. I would also love for LEGO to make some black and dark grey bucket pieces, although now (...) (20 years ago, 22-Oct-04, to lugnet.pirates)
