Well Mr. Dulin, almost all of them do exist at once. There are the main ships,
but there are a few variants of some:
Frigate: Super frigate, transport frigate
Merchantman: Bomb ship, whaler, transport
Ketch: Bomb ketch
Chameleon ship: can assume the rig of a square-ketch, dhow, or sampan
The base ship type is easily modified by the addition of extra guns or modular
kits I keep in reserve. The unusual ships exist because the game consists of an
entire world of nations, some with unique ship types (eg only Altavia has the
xebec) and others with unique ship variants (eg only St. Michael has the
merchant frigate). The ships can also be listed by civilization: Alsian (Asain),
Islamic, and Continentian (European). The variety just makes the game better.
The game pushes the edge of 1820's technology, so we have balloons, steamers,
and some other interesting things going on. Some nations are technologically
inept and still rely on medieval units (eg the Papal States, which feilds the
galley, footman, cataphract) while others are at the cusp of that technological
threshold (eg the Dans feilds the large steamer, balloon, repeating culverin,
and superfrigate). The game also has rules for ships of the line (100 gun
behemoths) although we cannot physrep them. Unfortunately my camera is of poor
quality so clarity is as best as it can get. More pictures is a possibility as
soon as some battles start raging again. Most of our characters are tied up
administering their investments or governments right now.
