Hey, did anyone notice that the first year ever that Lego posted a financial
loss, and a big one to boot, was 1998.  The year they killed our pirates!  I
mean yah, so the last sets were actually "produced" in early 1997, but they
were still around on shelves for the better part of the year. (on clearance,
dang me for spending my money on college not bricks)  Oh yah, and the same
year they juniorised our town sets, and gave us those MISERABLE fright
knights (incredibly juniorised!).
This from now on should be called the Black Year (1998).  My proof that
there is a Lord Almighty who punishes the wicked for profane acts, is that
the Lego company is losing it's shirt and closing factories, and making
insipid video games, and Jumping into bed with Disney, lucasfilm, JK
ROwling, The vatican, and Colonel Sanders before he went Tuts up!  These be
only the first three plagues that TLC will suffer for it's insolence!  It's
prostitution of A.B.S. and it's propogation of the cult of "juniorisation",
which preaches a gospel of easy to build models and Big Ugly Rock Pieces,
will ensure that Mega Blocks will give us the Pirate ships we so desire!
O.K., so I blaspemed a bit there (and borrowed liberally from John Lithgow's
preacher from Footloose) We aren't gonna race out and buy mega blocks, but
how long can Ebay continue to fill the void left by lego's removal of our
pirates?
They could easily turn plastic into some serious green by giving us some
more quality pirate sets!  Most of the People in this newsgroup have spent
the better part of this year buying pirate paraphernalia (sets we already
own 1 or 2 of) off of ebay.  Check out how much BSB or SES Or even Eldorado
fortress go for!  I mean why did they cancel it in the first place, were we
ever given a real reason (no I'm not counting their ridiculous "3 years is
all we plan for a theme" statement) come on, Castle and town have gone on
for over 20 years despite their best efforts to kill them.  I hope they
don't blame it on poor sales, as the pirate sets they produced from 1995-
were so lame.  Poor sales are a result of poor sets (read into this comment-
insectoids, rock raiders, et al SHIPWRECK ISLAND 2).
please don't be offended by this tirade, unless you work for Lego, then be
so offended that you go out and design me some friggin pirates!!!
With warmest regards to Grampy Kirk Kristensen (Who is turning over in his
grave)   JOn Furman

(...) Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding! Correct! What do we have for him Johnny? I fell the exact same way! I slowed down my Lego buying rate 300% that year because of no more pirates. If it wasn't for the new aquazone and ninja that year, I would've quit Lego (...) (24 years ago, 25-Dec-00, to lugnet.pirates)
