Hi everyone,
Well, Thursday is the day. I leave Detroit Metro at 6:00PM, and
after a layover in The Netherlands (Dat vallt mee!) I'm headed for
Johannesburg on Monday evening, 11 November. I'm not sure what
that means for my 'net access, but the work I'll be doing will
sharply curb my ability to stay up nights pounding on my keys.
With any luck there will be some great stories out of South
Africa regarding the availability of our mutually favorite brick;
I'm not sure what to expect, whether I will encounter ancient
sets remaindered or if the shelves will be comparatively bare.
It should make for a lot of interesting .market.* posts, at the
very least; I'm not aware of any LUGNET members or posters who
are South African so depending on how one looks at it, either
a) I will never have a meet while I'm there or b) EVERY DAY will
be a meet while I'm there, because I'm the entire SAFOL™ contingent.
I'll try to look at the "glass half full" side of that, even if
I have no bricks with me. (Yes, I'm taking a brick just in case.)
A side question, though, because this has made me curious: What
LEGO experiences have people had in places outside Western Europe
and North America? Have you encountered the odd Cosmic Cruiser
in, say, Cameroon? (I'm not sure about Israel and Turkey, though
I always enjoy reading stories from Shiri and Selçuk however
maddening unavailabilties are to them.) So...any LEGO found in
shops on the slopes of Everest out there?
