It's much quicker and cheaper for me to fly from Vancouver to Los
Angeles than it is to San Diego or Orange County (several hours

Anyone else going to be going to LA who would share a rental car
+ driving?

Oh, heck yeah.  The 5 fwy goes right down the coast to Legoland, exit Canon
Road and turn left, signs for LEgoland abound.  Legoland Drive is where you
turn (duh) right, and they planted a lil' ol' Euro-style roundabout to
confuse us USA natives.  EASY to get there by car and the other bonus is
that your weekend rental will get you other places in SoCal, just try not to
fill the trunk/boot with LEGO, or your airline may have to charge you extra
per weight!
Best wishes!
I'd suggest Enterprise rentals, but you may have your own preference.

PS>  For better costal scenery use hwy 1 from Oceanside down through
Carlsbad, and there are a few good restaurants down there too!  I could name
a few, as my wife was stationed in Carlsbad for 6 months once.
