Keep them blackouts rolling!

Well, well, well. I work with a stockbroker here in Santa Rosa, CA, and
consequently when the market closes in New York, it is 1:00 in the
afternoon for us. Our busiest time of day. (Also means I'm off work by
2:30/3:00 every day WOOHOO!!!) Anyway, today we discovered that our
office building is in section 5 of the California power grid system. We
discovered this fact at 12:57 PM, as all our lights went out and the
power back ups for every one of our computers began a piercing screech
for twenty minutes while I ran around trying to get them turned off.

What a mess. Our phone system is tied into the power also, so we were
SOL there also. We spent the last hour calling all over the country on
my cell phone, since the boss was gone with his phone. Reporting trades
to people, who's phone numbers you have programmed into the speed dial
of your phone system, and haven't seen written down in about two years
is really NOT a lot of fun. But we persevered. Actually, just as we were
deciding, "Well, we might as well go home. Not much to do here without
computers!" The lights came back on. So it really was only an hour we
were without power, but why THAT particular hour?

Anybody else experiencing this right now?

From the sunny, but still remarkably dark when the lights go out,
state...

Matt

Matt & All, Sounds like you need to build some more power plants. Fortunately, my company designs and builds power plants, even nuclear power! Check it out! ;) (URL) off.topic.fun ***...*** Please visit (URL) (24 years ago, 17-Jan-01, to lugnet.people, lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

(...) We've had a few problems here. Fortunately, we have generators on-site to keep the computers up. However, I learned (too late) that; 1) The generators also power the offices of the support teams :-) 2) The transfer from main to generator (and (...)
