I don’t know if it was him or the process but the results I didn’t like very much.

Do you remember what the machine looked like?

Check out my Brickshelf folder for pictures of two I’ve used.

The 3DSystems one makes resin parts, which might have been the ones you didn’t like. OTOH it holds detail really well, so maybe it was a different machine..

The Stratasys Dimension makes parts out of ABS, just like LEGO. The detail isn’t quite the same though - you can see some of the “steps” in the finished part. They could be sanded smooth, though. This is the machine I would check out if I were you.

The other “reasonably inexpensive” RP technology is ZCorp, as seen here:

These machines make parts faster and (relatively) cheaper, but they’re also messier and not-so-much-LEGO in finish quality. You could also sand and paint these parts to look good, though.

I can’t imagine how many beards you have to sell to pay for an injection mold! Is there really that much of a market for custom parts? Please (anyone) inform me - I’d really like to know!

Darrell

Hi Darrel, Thanks for the comments. About the links, first of all, I have recently discovered (or been told of) a few more non-English websites that I am going to add onto my existing link page hopefully sometimes this weekend. There is, for (...) (20 years ago, 17-Sep-04, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands, lugnet.parts.custom, lugnet.build.minifigs, FTX)
