A quick reminder about our upcoming SMART meeting on February 27th. The
mini-challenge is to build an Obstacle Avoiding Target Seeker (OATS) robot: a
4"x4" retroreflective target will be placed on the ground exactly six feet
directly in front of your robot. The idea is for your robot to drive and stop on
this target. The "catch" is that there will be obstacles between the robot an
the target. They won't mess up odometry, but some will possibly be very
difficult to climb. Check the previous message for more details.

For March's meeting, we also came up with a more mechanically-inclined
mini-challenge: stair climbing. So if you want to start working on that, you are
certainly welcome!

Also, this coming Saturday, February 20th, Gus and I will be giving a short talk
about LEGO robotics and HiTechnic sensors at the SRS meeting. Check the link on
our main page in the left margin for directions. The meeting starts at 10am. If
you're curious how the "other" robot guys build robots, you might want to take
this opportunity to come check them out!

We had a great meeting last Saturday. A number of robots were able to complete the mini-challenge. Everyone who built a robot for the challenge agreed this was one of the more interesting ones to work on. The March meeting is in four weeks. Since (...)
