The March meeting is in four weeks. Since it's a much more demanding mechanical
challenge, if you are interested in building a robot for it, I recommend you
start sooner rather than waiting until the last week!

The mini-challenge is to build a stair-climbing robot. There is an irregular set
of stairs in the Plato auditorium which we'll use as our arena. The steps are in
pairs, with a longer section between pairs. The very first step is 7" high, all
the rest that I measured were 6" high. The bottom of each step is an inch
further in than the top of the step. The steps are about 12" wide if you measure
from top to top, or 13" if you measure from bottom to top.

Pictorially:

If you want an extra challenge, you can build your robot so that will also climb
the stairs from the first floor up to the second floor, going around two
corners. And for Gus, we expect your robot to start in the parking lot, figure
out a way into the building, climb the stairs, navigate the corridors, and end
up at the top of the Plato auditorium, where it should then climb up onto the
table and do a song and dance (or take notes if there's a lecture going on).

It hardly seems possible, but our next SMART meeting is in two weeks! If you
haven't started your mini-challenge robot yet, now might be a good time!

See you then!
