As promised, here are the specs on the Easter eggs that we'll be using for our
Easter Egg Hunt robots.

We'll be buying a bunch of Hershey's Solid Milk Chocolate Eggs. The eggs are
about 1 1/8 inch long, and just a bit over 3/4 inch wide, or in metric, 3 cm by
2 cm.

Here are some pictures for sizing:

The 9 oz bag I bought cost under $2, and they seem to be available in most
places now that Valentine's Day is over. We'll stick strictly to these
particular Hershey's eggs. Even though there are other brands available that are
similar in size (but not exactly the same), it's important to have a specific
standard that everyone's robots can deal with.

Don't forget to make sure that your robot can handle the fact that the foil
sometimes starts peeling off. This will probably be more of an issue if you end
up rolling the eggs around a lot, rather than just picking them up, but it's
something to keep in mind.

Don't forget to re-read the previous message for instructions on how your robot
should behave, especially when delivering eggs. One change I'd like to make to
the arena is to put a 3/4 inch white tape line right around the holes that the
eggs should be dropped into. That will make it easier for robots to see where
the eggs go.

If you have any questions about the event, arena or robots, or if you encounter
difficulties in building a robot, feel free to post a message in this group.

I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of interesting Easter Egg Hunting robots on
March 26th!

Is the arena open to anyone that brings an egg-gathering robot? My son and I haven't been to any of the meetings (but we have participated in the robot challenge last year and have been to many of your other public events) and we may put together a (...) As we mentioned at the meeting (and in the last message) our next meeting will be at Crossroads Shopping Center on March 26. This is the Saturday before Easter Sunday. So our mini-challenge will be to build a robot that will hunt for chocolate (...) (20 years ago, 2-Feb-05, to lugnet.org.us.smart)
