This is not in place of my other layout submission.

This layout is more city like.  It has a downtown, an industrial district, and
a large Fair Grounds.  This layout should be considered also.

http://www.nelug.org/layout/3x6city.GIF

This layout trys to satisfy some peoples concerns while making setup easier
with the addition of some features.  Some compromises were made that remove
some features in favor of others.  A few changes were more radical than others.

Features (neither good nor bad).

1.  No 16x32 baseplates.
2.  All straight track lines up with the edges of a baseplate and is 4 studs
from one edge or another.  This means straight track could be assembled
beforehand to ease setup.

Radical changes.

1.  My Main Street is turned completely around.  This means the Parking lot now
faces out at the right side of the layout.  This is actually more prototypical
because the buildings now face other buildings in the center of town and not
the tracks.  I also lose my Train station but I gain about 16 studs of space
between the parking lot and the tracks so a platform could go there.

2.  While there is now a nice complex switching yard in the center of the
layout the overall siding space is greatly reduced.  This could be a problem
for displaying Shaun's train.  Although there is one fairly long connection
track at the bottom of the layout that could fit some of the train.

Other changes.

1.  Tom loses a few sections of street although it is easy to imagine the
street is still there the way it is set up so I hope it is OK with Tom.

2.  My Police station is now in an awkward position (I may be able to switch
the Police station and Church for a better fit).

3.  The Fair grounds once again increased although there is no siding there
now.  Once could easily be added in the narrow section that runs up the middle
of the layout.

4.  The lighthouse is in a more proper location.

5.  There is still a fair amount of room for new MOC's, although not as much.

6.  I connected all the roads (not good or bad in my opinion but at least one
member feels strongly about this, we can talk about it at the meeting).

7.  I used another Model Railroading idea.  There is now a track that appears
to go off the layout.  This is not a siding but an imaginary connection to
another town etc.

8.  I included road over Le'Gorge.  This can easily be removed and reconfigured
if this isn't built in time for the next show.

9.  No "S" curves in the outer loop.

10.  No death defying "On the edge" track.

11.  While the layout is not as balanced as my other attempt it does separate
the town from the Fair Grounds which makes for different things to look at in
different sections of the layout.

12.  The smaller of the 3 loops is a bit bigger on this layout than on the
other.
