Yeppiers,
They are cooling fans and they actually spin. They are motorized via a
micromotor in the base. Originally there was a chain drive that drove three

Is it still slow like you mentioned or were you able to speed it up?

Actually since I took those new picts I have change the design again. I changed
the gearing ratio on the fans and now you can actually see the fans move. They
move faster now. I also changed the crown gears out to regular pulleys. It
looks better but it doesn't look like a fan. I actually have another idea with
propellers not sure though how well it will look.

cooling fans. After another look at a real GP-9 or at least the two I looked • at
have two main cooling fans and then various other vents up and around the • top.

I also was thinking of adding two lights but considering how much power this
Engine already uses its not a good idea. I still might consider adding them • in
the future but running this train on a LARGE layout might not be that good of
an Idea.

The other issue is I would like to make a matching dual unit. So it I do the
total  motor compacity is 4 9v drive motors and 2 micro motors... THATS alot • of
power!

What about independent battery power?

While in theory that would be the way to go you can't use an independent
battery power on the train because when you do the power gets transfered to the
tracks and causes all types of issues because they are part of the same system.
If I was to Isolate the lights from the actually power of the motors t might
work. Only thing is I would have to make some unwanted modification to get the
smallest of battery boxes inside somewhere where it doesn't change the model
itself. I might be able to come up with an alternative.
