I was thinking that maybe the rules should allow the builder to place the cans however they like as long as they are on the pads. This way if a design requires the axle based handles to be on the sides rather than the front, the builder could make sure they were. This would also address your need to change the direction of the handle, unless of course you need the handle to go front back and have the railings on the sides.

This also reminds me that we mentioned having the handle off-center to allow for easier dumping if a robot was designed to pick up the can by the handle. Do we still want to look at that?

Maybe you (and anyone else coming to the next meeting) could mock up other ideas for the cans?

And yes, the landing pad should be at least 1 stud wider.

Only 1? This might be tough to tile, better count on 2 studs wider. Speaking of tiles, I think we only need tiles on the outer studs of the pad and do not need them to cover all of the studs. Specifically the 4 x 4 area in the center doesn’t need tiles at all. This will help spread the tiles around the route better (I only have so many).

I will bring my first robot to the meeting and we’ll talk more about that over there. Right now I’m working on the line following part, seeing, grabbing and dumping are solved. So, we’ll have a continuous black line in the middle of the street?

I thought this is what we had decided on after Josh posted his images of the straightaway and their painted sewer drain. The black tape down the center of the street will make the navigation much easier.

What will be the curve radius? Can you see if is close to the test pad?

At first it looked like it was a tighter radius on the road plates, but when I placed one directly on the 45 degree markings in the one corner, it ends up being basically the same radius on both the road plates and the test pad. See these images:

I’m gonna use that to test the robot and I’ll make the sensor autocalibrate.

I hope to have my grabbing/lifting/dumping mechanism ready by the meeting as well.
