[a racer-based GBC] could be pretty cool.  Maybe I'll

The advantage of working with Ben. We once had a racecourse set up so that
the first car through a "canyon" collapsed the wall over the second car. Fun. I
figure if it only pushes 2-3 balls, it has to make a lap every 2-3 seconds to
handle the throughput requirements. Crate-dumps into the input would have to be
spread out over time. Additionally, with the branch points that come in some
sets, re-directing (or even alternate-trip splitting) of the GBC stream might be
accomplished.

Wow, great minds think alike... when I saw that post, and another one about a
3vil monorail (sorry I can't find the post anymore) I immediately thought about
GBCs.  I mentioned the idea of a GBC monorail to Steve last week, but after
trying several track & car designs I haven't gotten anywhere.  The racer track
just might be the ticket.  We could either push the balls around on the track or
carry them in hopper cars GBC train style

Well, off to bricklink to investigate further :)
