(...) He has upadted his auction listing, so I will quote it here: "My reserve is a very reasonable 95,000 dollars, that includes delivery, storage containers, filing system, et all! " Also, A little detective work shows he may be a Lugnet Member (...) (24 years ago, 7-Feb-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.org.us.gardenslug)

The same kinda thing works on eBay - you'll need an accomplice to watch the bidding & make sure they win the auction. You still pay the listing fee. Or you can set an un-realistic reserve, but then the listing fee will be higher, and you still have (...) David Schilling wrote in message ... (...) honest (...) anyway. I think he may have gotten closer to his asking price if he had spent more time documenting his collection. I'm sure this would have taken a lot of time, but people expect a lot if (...) (24 years ago, 7-Feb-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.org.us.gardenslug)

(...) If Frank F. moves out to California, I can probably retire early. (Unfortunately Uncle Dan does not know how to post to this site yet.) Hoepfully someone will teach me. (24 years ago, 7-Feb-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.org.us.gardenslug)

In the real world, if the buyer wants a valuation only, then they instruct the auctioneer to that effect, and the auctioneer bids for them. They win, but still pay a buyer's fee. (24 years ago, 7-Feb-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.org.us.gardenslug)

Re: LARGEST LEGO LOT ON EBAY EVER!! (???)

(...) This could backfire on the seller, then, if the only reason for the auction is to get a value for insurance purposes. If people know there's no way they'll ever match the reserve, they won't bid on it. Since it's not honest to get a valuation (...) (...) I've been there too... I've never fully sorted all of 20000 pieces I took on. A lesson like that might teach you not to do it again, but, there's nothing quite like the first plunge, especially if it's sets from your dark ages. (...) Interesting that you mention fire. I was talking with a fire-fighter friend of mine one night. I said something about all my Legos and that they were made from ABS. He kinda cringed and said that ABS had some nasty toxic properties when (...) (24 years ago, 7-Feb-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.org.us.gardenslug)

(...) For those who have such collections which they are looking to sell much of, one way to deal with it could be to occasionally invite folks over to browse the collection and make bids on things their interested in. If they discover something you (...) (24 years ago, 7-Feb-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.org.us.gardenslug)

Re: LARGEST LEGO LOT ON EBAY EVER!! (???)

(...) Somewhere in the "high 5 figures" is what he put in the auction notes. I'd guess, since he called the 'minimum value' 50 grand if he broke it up, that he's looking for 80 or 90 grand. Based on what his claims are about his collection, it might (...) (24 years ago, 7-Feb-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.org.us.gardenslug)
