I can assure you that the capabilities to start an organization are
rather unique. Interestingly, the capabilities to maintain and grow an
organization are different, and frequently are not found in the same
individual. I'm certainly not an expert on this, but I have observed it
(and struggled with it, I'm not a starter or really a maintainer myself,
I think my own skills are off on a slightly different tangent. though
they are close to the maintainers skills). Buisiness provides many
examples. There are a host of people who create startup companies, and
then move on once the company is established. They may exit by selling
the company to a larger company, or they may exit by establishing a
board of directors and getting some maintainers on that board, or they
may sell the company.
In some cases in fact, the starter person needs to move along. We have a
social group at church which was started by two individuals. One of them
exited when she went on to vet school and no longer had time. The other
one almost destroyed the group because it was no longer meeting her
expectations. I struggled for almost two years to keep the remnants of
the group alive until the minister stepped in and gave us some help and
got an influx of people to get it back up to critical mass.
Other terms which can be used for these two skill sets are visionary and
implementor (and I'm sure there's a million more buzz words).
