Over the weekend ULUG (Utah LUG) participated in "The Ophir, Tintic and Western" Train Show at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, Utah. We are a newer LUG (under 6 months) with 9 active members and this is our first Train show as a LUG. We were pleased to (...)   Re: Unit LNE of the dinochrome brigade (Was: Rock Crawling)

The second set of arms on Mike's robot gives it better mobility. They make its overall tread length much longer, so it can treat stairs like a ramp instead of, well, stairs, and that makes it faster at climbing them. The arms also let it raise the (...)   Re: Unit LNE of the dinochrome brigade (Was: Rock Crawling)

(...) Ha! Methinks you underestimate the talents (not to mention obsession) of the other folks in this event <grin>. Seriously, thanks for the kind words, and I'm very happy with it, but now the rest of you know yet another way to try to do it. Go (...)   Re: Unit LNE of the dinochrome brigade (Was: Rock Crawling)

(...) well, in all honesty I shamelessly implemented a solution I had already known about: PackBot by iRobot. I won't remotely claim the idea originated with me, as it didn't. I was inspired by the "real world" here. That said, I'd not run across (...) (19 years ago, 29-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.us.laflrc, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

Re: Unit LNE of the dinochrome brigade (Was: Rock Crawling)

(...) Thank you both Matthias & Philo (and others!). give them an inch indeed... first, I really feel i need to apologize for *not* CADing this up. I've tried to CAD stuff, but the combination of my chosen platform (Mac) coupled with where I like (...) (19 years ago, 29-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.us.laflrc, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

Re: Unit LNE of the dinochrome brigade (Was: Rock Crawling)

Brian, your rock crawler is quite interesting to me because you've rediscovered the design of a real-world reconnaissance robot: (URL) designer is related to my boss in some manner that I can't recall, but he was up at our office last summer showing (...)   Re: Unit LNE of the dinochrome brigade (Was: Rock Crawling)

(...) Same comments and feelings here ;o) Brian, it would help to reproduce your outstanding design (and maybe CAD it!) if you could provide higher resolutions photographs somewhere... Philo (19 years ago, 29-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.us.laflrc, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

Re: Unit LNE of the dinochrome brigade (Was: Rock Crawling)

Brian, (...) Absolutely awesome! /Matthias (deeply impressed) ps Now I'm going to wait day and night for the LDraw file ;-) (give them an inch and they will take a mile...) (19 years ago, 29-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.us.laflrc, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

Re: Unit LNE of the dinochrome brigade (Was: Rock Crawling)

(...) OK, I hammered on it some more, and made a much more fun video. I updated Brickshelf with some "deconstruction" pictures that show how to build it (hey, I didn't say they made it *easy* to build it): (URL) the video on YouTube, with my son (...)   January 2007 SMART meeting notes

What a terrific meeting we had yesterday! I was really blown away by all the walking robots people built. There were 7 fully working robots, and many other prototypes that people brought as well. As usual, every design was different. Some robots (...) (19 years ago, 29-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Dark grey bricks

Hi Does anyone have any dark grey bricks for sale? (Old dark grey--NOT new dark grey). I need about 500 to 1000 2 x 4 bricks. I've got a deadline on a project so I'm willing to pick em up if you've got em. And I'm willing to pay whatever you ask. I (...) (19 years ago, 25-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.us.lugola)

Re: Unit LNE of the dinochrome brigade (Was: Rock Crawling)

(...) Awesome! Great videos! BTW if you want to know how to make bigger tires, try inserting old school 1" Lego tires into the crevices around the large grey "hula hoops" from the star wars kit. This will make tires at least 8" (20 cm) in diameter (...) (19 years ago, 24-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.us.laflrc, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

Re: Unit LNE of the dinochrome brigade (Was: Rock Crawling)

Re: January 27th, 2007 SMART meeting

Coin Sorter: 8 votes Inverted Pendulum: 3 votes Walker: 11 votes Sorry, I should have posted something sooner. But if you have a coin (...) (19 years ago, 24-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: January SMART meeting

(...) Perhaps I'm way off base, but I thought the next challenge was a coin sorter. I haven't built anything so I've just missed out on some thinking time if I try to build something. -Craig (19 years ago, 24-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

Upcoming Train show and rundown on lastest meetings.

Whoops I am a little behind and late posting this. Life comes first I guess. Anyways ULUG has a train show that we are participating in and will be displaying a layout at. The train show is being held at Thanksgiving Point, just outside Lehi, Utah. (...) (19 years ago, 24-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.us.ulug, FTX)
