There was an entrant on TLC Robotica that used a rotating shaft of wheels
almost like a Killough (Iain!) platform. It was called Hot Wheels and was
done by designers at Mattel:

There's no good photos of the mechanism, but basically the impression I got
was that the two rear drive wheels may have used A/B steering but there was
also a set of wheels mounted on a cylinder that spun in axes parallel to
forward drive. As a result, it could turn a lot faster.

I think that would be an excellent idea! I originally wanted a demo/talk
period in the original rtlToronto events, (Ralph Hempel presented pbForth in
a short 25 minute presentation at rtlToronto3) but it was sort of nixed as
being too boring :( Maybe some live demos would let folks like Hitoshi
Hirota and Iain show their non competition robots with more spotlight?
BTW, since we've got from:
-6th Annual Toronto Lego Robotics Event
-rtlToronto7
-rtl8
I'd like to propose the next one is referred to as "r9". The next train
event will be referenced as "t2" :)

| Hi everyone, Just had an idea about the robots at Rtl 8. I really want to see something other than A B skid steering. Sure its simple, but it makes for a choppy 'etch a sketch' look to the robot when its driving. I don't know if this is intended to (...) (24 years ago, 24-Apr-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
