what about the t-shirts, and did you make any other decisions regarding
rtlToronto Train 1?

Well, I'm really happy to say we had 9 folks show up, which is just
stupendous.  We somehow missed Dave Koudys, but Kevin Stone, Jeff Van
Winden, Bruce Sheridan, Matt Jetleb, Rob Stehlik, Iain Hendry, Jeff Elliott,
Chris and me of course came out.

I haven't really started on the design work for the shirt (ie, the detailed
drawings for the back).  I've been swamped at work, but I figure before the
May dinner (which I think should be a bit earlier as I'm going on a trip)
should be great.

What else...Jeff, Kevin, Iain and I talked about train1, we suspect the
setup will be like this:

http://peach.mie.utoronto.ca/events/lego/lego-052601-rules.html

I have deliberately NOT done this in TD because as a first event, I think it
would be a little more free form.  The general idea is for people to bring
whatever they have (especially track), and sort of "settle into" an area
along the main track.  The main track would be built with whatever track
people brought in.  If we had extra track, we could build a second or third
ring.

I sort of see (and let me know if y'all agree) people building a spur/siding
on a turnout and setting up structures near that.   You could build them as
16x16 dot plate blocks, or larger plates.  I have a lot of road plates if
needed too. Track blocks could be electrically isolated with their own
speedreg (unless we all wanted to go DCC right now)

If someone has a layout block, they could fill out an entire length of main
track.  I will bring a harbour/Town section (two cranes, an extended 4555)

The yellow areas represent bridges.  I think it was Jeff who said he had
built some Technic bridges, which would be easy to fit into a 2-4 foot wide
gap between tables.

The pink area could be more bridges, or a component which requires depth
like a subway (well, maybe not a subway, that might be too large) or a
roundhouse turntable.

Other than that, it's pretty free form.  Let's see how it goes.

One warning: the tables are not dark green.  They are a horrible laminate
oak pattern.  Maybe we could cover them with some dark green or grey
construction paper. Each table is 4x8 IIRC.  Or 3x6.  Or 2x..I can't
remember, it's the standard community center/high school folding table.

Calum

G'Day <snipage> (...) I am thinking dollar stores sometimes have real cheap green vinyl tablecloths, so far I found some dark green vinyl shower curtains, I will bring them along. Should I get some blue ones for water? Cheers Oliver Play Well (24 years ago, 12-Apr-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
