I managed to spend nearly half the weekend chipping away at my Train 4
layout. I got the grand hotel out of my brain (where it has been
percolating for 6 weeks now) and into ABS.
I must've done something right: I ran out of 1x4 dk grey arches, 1x2x2
white windows, 1x1 dk grey cylinder bricks, and dk grey 75 degree slope
pieces at the same time.
Building in tan can be pretty frustrating: a near total lack of odd-stud
bricks, combined with a dearth of plates and tiles means that design
flexibility is pretty limited.
The result is a 4-storey (6.0 brick storeys) structure which will
probably be the largest building in my town.
The hotel is 44x10 and 25 bricks tall. The lower two floors are
subdivided into two 16x10 units which span a roadway under an internal
arch. The roadway leads to the West Altenburg road ramp to the lower
level. A train track runs immediately behind the hotel, which has only
two windows on the back face (more will appear if I find more 1x4
arches)
The right end of the ground floor is a shop (purpose unknown at this
time), while the left end is the hotel office, reception, and stairs to
the second floor.
Here are a couple of quick snaps to give you the idea:

I've also made some progress into the construction of Rail Ramp #4, the
most complex of the ramps. It incorporates two casements, and the
tunnel containing the road ramp to upper Altenburg. It must also
support the inclined, curving tracks which sweep out to join the upper
loop.
