Way too much free time. • snip
I hate to do this, but I just finished a rant on rec.roller-coaster about
that phrase.  What exactly does "way too much free time on their hands"
mean?  I've heard this so much as a derigotary remark used by people who
don't understand something and just want to bash them down and build
themselves up or something.  Like when someone on the Westcoaster message
boards posted a link to someone who'd built some LEGO rides, everyone
replied saying "WHOAH!!!!! SOMEONES GOT WAY TOO MUCH FREE TIME ON THEIR
HANDS!"

But what does that mean?!  Everybody's got different interests and hobbies.
I agree.

But there seems, in my opinion, to be a limit to what interests and hobbies
should be.

An example:
I am a member of a rocket club.  We get together and launch rockets an retrieve
them when  ( and if ) you find them.  In our club, there are many different
types of members.  Those who build a rocket to scale - to such great detail it
boggles the mind - ; to those who relaunch all the different types of rockets;
to those who want power ( like me ), and so.  I won't build a scale detail
rocket and then fly it because of the damage it can substain.  Different
strikes for different folks.  And there is always a different challenge, of new
path to persue, etc.

But with cup stacking, now what?  The girl spent countless hours practicing,
entered the contest, won, and then goes home.  How many more contests can she
enter?  What is the next challenge?

Blockstacking was a contest that required different skills.  And even with the
best planning and effort, one may still lose.  And then the next challenge
comes along.

My comment regarding too much time was an opinion that I feel still is valid.

Blockstacking is a different league altogether.

IMHO.
