I figure if you can find an instruction that LEGO(r) published that shows a particular thing being cut, or if you know they cut it during manufacturing, it's OK to cut that thing yourself too. IIRC LEGO has shown Flex tube being cut in (...) (22 years ago, 17-Sep-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(I did say IIRC!... so I didn't RC this time)... well I left myself an escape clause: "if you know they cut it during manufacturing" which they clearly do... they do not MOLD it to all those different lengths, you can see the cut marks.
