That's a cool idea, I like, I'd do that.  I'd allow RCXs, but not
require them.  The make good counter weights. :-)

I agree whole heartedly - I'd only insist that we use Chris's RCX's -
I'd be afraid of mine getting damaged on landing.

Seriously though - we could integrate this into a full-fledged
Robot/Castle game quite easily. I'm envisioning something like this:

Our "Castle" - real or imaginary - is located on a large paper
grid - say 2m x 2m.  Outside the grid are rings (string?) at 1/2 m
distances. The compeitor chooses the ring they want to launch from -
greater difficulty and more points the farther away you are - but the
judges place the trebouchet randomly around along the line. The RCX
must then calculate the angle and force to use to throw the projectile
into the target area on the grid. Like the Junkyard Wars episode, you
get three tries per position. After each throw the RCX can be
signalled with a flashlight to indicate the position of the last
throw: Perhaps 4 flashes (pause) 2 flashes to indicate grid square
(4,2). The RCX then recalculates the angle and force and tries again.

What does everyone think?
