Well, we're backed up over NFS to a DLT autoloader, so it's somewhere in the
department archives, but I feel kinda stupid asking them to restore Lego
photos versus say, computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis or
any of the other REAL work on our department systems. :)
The problem with rm -i and chmoding to read only is one of human
error-specifically, Norman's concept of "capture error". It's where you get
stuck into saying yes automatically, sort of like when you intend to drive
to the store to get eggs and end up at home because you always drive home at
the end of the day. Sort of like, I've learned to press Shift Delete in
Windows to delete stuff without touching the Recycle Bin. So, sooner or
later, I'll always immediately press Yes to confirm a delete, and end up
deleting it anyways.
I once SCSI lowlevelled a large disk attached to my Amiga 3000/25 by
accident this way. I was chatting on the phone and absentmindedly prepped
the drive in HDtoolbox. Damn.
