In all likelihood I won't be able to bring a computer to rtl10, and the
software I need will likely be difficult to setup on someone else's
computer. Assuming someone will even let me do that. I will burn a CD
with everything I need but just in case I'd like to program a
calibration routine into my RCX.
What this means is before each match I will place blocks in known
locations on the board. I will hit run and the robot to move to all
four corners and pass over these blocks. This will allow the robot to
check light levels for squares with and without blocks. It will also
verify range of motion in each direction. When finished the robot will
return to the home location and beep. I'll layout the blocks in the
match pattern. When its time to start the match I will hit run again.
Hopefully this will mean I don't have to use an outside computer to make
adjustments for changing light levels, other elements that need
calibration.
Is this kind of procedure ok with every one? I'll have to do it before
each match, because I'll loose the calibration data every time the RCX
is turned of or the program stops.

| (...) You could if you really want, but I'll have at least one if not two extra laptops at rtl10 for people to use. Just bring your code on floppy and of course, your IR tower. I can preload whatever you need the night before. Calum (23 years ago, 19-Feb-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
