Hi Trevyn

I gotta hurry back and finish my GREAT train the MWME. (Ya right)

(Well, perhaps they were sort of answered, but they didnt
seem very official/definitive.)

its been so long since I've haggled over the rules with Bruce that I
more or less forgot.  I though some of these questions have been
answered.  But for the record I'll go over them.

1. Why aren't these questions answered anywhere? They seem like they would
be commonly asked.

BECAUSE!!!

:)

:)

:)

(sorry this was a joke.. i could not resist)

ummmm, I really can only blame the Train people.

2. How many rungs does the robot start on?

at first the consensus was 1 rung.  BUT after several of us tried to
make a monkey, we agreed that 2 rungs was OK.

3. Is the robot allowed to touch the ground? (Seems like cheating to me)

NO NEVER.  if any of the robot touches the ground then it loses.  and
the last bar it was on is "marked"  this is done so that if the second
monkey falls as well, the monkey that fell furthest wins that round.

4. What are the finishing conditions? The button sounds reasonable to me,
if implemented properly.

Again, we were originally talking about a button, BUT having discovered
that this monkey business (pun intended) is very challenging, we gave up
on a button.  as for finishing, if your monkey touches the last bar....
it wins.

5. This question relates directly to the design of my robot, is there
someone i should email if i dont want to tell everyone about the bot? or
does everyone usually tell everyone else about their bots?

ME!!! tell ME!!!!    no really, in games gone past, robot design was
kept secret, for no other reason then just because.   I have decided to
break with tradition and this go round post pics of the feeble attempt i
have tried.  ( URL to be found in some other post a long time ago.)

to that end feel free to get in touch with almost anyone in this news
group.  we're "mostly harmless."  OR of you want to post questions to
the group that's fine to.  you've been to  RTL7 and  8, you have a good
idea of who people are and what they built.  Calum has a GREAT page up.

http://peach.mie.utoronto.ca/events/lego/

the home page has many of our pictures and a link. so if you forgot a
name then click on a face and ask a question. OR, if you forgot who
built what,  peruse the archive of pics (you have high speed so its ok)
and find who built that cool stacker and read the name in the caption.
then e-mail them......

6. Is it just too early on for all these details to have been worked out?

Thank you, and I'm looking forward to seeing yall at rtlToronto9.

we more or less have it worked out.  it was just a bit early to get
people excited.

keep posting here!!!  its good to have you aboard.

  questions about the monkey bars

Hi. I'm Trevyn of Seanna or Steve or Trevyn or Nicholas. I have come to rtlToronto 7 and 8, but never competed, a fact about which Chris seems rather annoyed :). I would like to build a robot for rtlToronto9, and i have a few questions that were not (...) (23 years ago, 30-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
