Can anyone make heads or tails out of this network issue???
My computer (running XP HomeEd.) can access the Internet without issue.
History...
I have been using highspeed for a bit, and my children were starting to complain
about dial up, as well as friends complaining as they try to call while the kids
are monopolizing the phone lines. So like any good mom, I decided to hook them
up.... well... that has not worked out so well.
Problem...
We have hooked up my machine, and my sons computer (running 98) via a router
(Linksys BEFSX41) but his machine can NOT access the Internet. We have gone as
far as bringing in another machine to test, the NIC, the cables and the router
themself. All of those components worked, and the other computer, (which was
also running 98) connected without issue. Therefore I can safely say it's not a
hardware issue.
Weird facts...
My machine can ping his machine, as well as the router, BUT I can NOT ping
myself.
My son can ping his own machine, he can ping the router, but he can not ping my
machine (it times out). If he tries to ping google an error window opens,
titled "Ping" (This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut
down).
I am relatively sure the protocols are set up correctly. Looking for
suggestions.
Thanks,
Janey Red Brick
