I built a sumo robot for BrickFest '04. Oh, sorry, that's right, can't mention
sumo on this channel.

whats sumo?  cant be any good or fun if RTL has never done it.

Ok, I built a vanilla robot that happened to use two RC motors. First time I
tried it on the kitchen floor, it damn near killed the cat. Turned out it went
much too fast for the RCX to react to sensor input and kill the power.

I used 9v (6xAA) battery packs to power the motors one per each and used regular
gear motors to drive cams to operate the battery packs' buttons. Worked great!
As long as you're not a cat.

I ended up gearing the motors down to reduce speed rather than increase torque.
But you're right, the overload trips will go off in the RCX if you try to drive
these motors directly.

I'm at at the "add motors" stage to my robot, and I was just mess'n around.

it would seem the RCX 1.0 powered with AC and direct driving the large
"motorcycle" tyres... could not move a simple frame, and single rcx
without stuttering.

I guess its back to my reg motor and a worm to 24.  THAT  moves anything!!!

:)

If you want to use the RC motors, there are a couple things to know: 1) You can not power them from an RCX. They'll run, but not as well as the (...)
