I'm pretty impressed by the fact they managed to bring down an Apple product to
nearly afforable prices. $500 USD, given current exchange rates, is a steal.
Of course, that doesn't include the pricey keyboard and mouse ($58!) or a
display, and there's only one DIMM slot, effectively forcing you to buy the
uprated memory option but part of the appeal is that it's as close to a build
your own Macintosh you'll ever get from Apple.
As always, the product and industrial design is perfect.
It reminds me of the SiliconGraphics Indy launch. Look at all the stuff we squeezed into this $4995 box! a 100Mhz CPU! 256MByte/sec GIO bandwidth! NTSC video IO! UNIX made user friendly! Cool case design! And it's so small! (well, I thought the SGI Indy was small)
I might even get one.
