I would say the track should be at least 5 feet wide. The fun-nest tracks, especially for first time racers are wide and simple. If you make them complicated people just get frustrated. The Laser Level is awesome. Just tried it out to level my train table. Setup the laser to cast a line 2 bricks above the top of the table.
