The pincer grips the ball so you can scoot around with it fairly well. If
the car goes out of an alignment parallel with the ground (knocked back on
its wheels say) the ball is loose. You can also charge/tackle/ram with the
other car, but this usually causes one or both vehicles to suffer a loss of
structural integrity.
A couple of side notes: the detailing on the cars is quite nicely done, and
there are a lot of half pegs included -- handy for non-standard building
techniques.
