to get to define how it all works I think.

I would think that Adrian would want to keep this map as 1 dimensional as
possible for packing and shipping.  So, I guess if it were me, I'd stay with
plates and tiles and not bricks or built up areas.

But if you want to use the full resolution of the map (2x the number of
studs) then you become restricted to round plates, as nothing else will fit
the 'half way' positions between four studs. Thats one of the reasons I
opted for colour coding by population density.
