  January 29th, 2011 SMART meeting

In just over two weeks we'll have our next SMART meeting. We'll meet at the new DigiPen building, from 2pm to 5pm. As no mini-challenge was posted, we'll try a very low-key variation on BrickHeap Wars for this meeting. It will be an individual (or (...) (15 years ago, 14-Jan-11, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Motors comparison page updated

(...) Interesting thread, even if a bit off topic of LEGO motors. I'm not an expert on power circuits, but a google search turned up this web site with a number of interesting power supply circuits (there is a search option).   Re: Motors comparison page updated

(...) Good thing, the load is not inductive. (...) OK, with a 1 second cycle time, and pure on/off, it is simpler. All you need is a solid state relay. (...) Looks like some people do: (URL) and worse, most of these dimmers work by dissipating and (...) (15 years ago, 13-Jan-11, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Motors comparison page updated

(...) I've been operating outside my personal SOA for years now :) (...) It's actually not a motor - it's a small electric hot water heater element. When plugged in it produces 1300W, but if I want less than that I need to figure out some way to (...) (15 years ago, 13-Jan-11, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.org.us.smart)

  Re: Motors comparison page updated

Hi Brian, (...) I was surprised too. I suspect a relatively high internal resistance of the windings, rather than mechanical friction, as the source of losses. No, (shame on me!) I didn't checked yet with an ohmmeter. (...) This is clearly outside (...) (15 years ago, 13-Jan-11, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.org.us.smart)

(...) ma! eri nascosto sotto la polvere? mi hai fatto rivenire in mente quando mi raccontavi del tuo hammond e del fatto che te lo portavi in giro per i concerti!   My latest colour iteration of the 948 go-cart

The elders amongst you may recall that I have a slight... appreciation for the 948 go-cart. It was, after all, the very first Technic set I received as a kid (circa 1977) and it was the biggest set I got after The Big Melt (tm). Here's some pics of (...)   NEWS FLASH--LEGO store in Ontario!

Here's an interesting tidbit of information I gleaned from a (non-LEGO related) reliable source-- A LEGO store is opening in March 2011 at Sherway Gardens in Toronto, Ontario If true, that'll be good for the many folks that weren't happy that the (...)
