  Re: free web counter?

(...) (URL) fancy. I've used it for a while now, and have had good luck with it. Hope that helps, Allan B. (21 years ago, 14-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  free web counter?

Almost time to open the website, so I am looking for a free hit counter? Any suggestion? Thanks. e. (21 years ago, 14-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Website Host speeds

(...) The service is pretty good. Problems are usually fixed within 24 hours or less, but the staff could use some grammar lessons. Seems like the speed of the site is pretty variable though. I've since paid for the next year, so I won't be (...) (21 years ago, 11-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Website Host speeds

(...) Hmm, in that case maybe it's not worth saving $10/year to change hosts... --Bram (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Website Host speeds

(...) No good -- some of the listed sites have a firewall which blocks (normal) ping and traceroute. You could use a tool that does TCP "pings" using the http port, but probably actual file download speed is the number you want to measure anyway. (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Website Host speeds

(...) Find decently-large files on each site and compare their download speeds. For me both at BU and on my DSL connection at home, the first two are blazingly fast and the third is pretty slow. The fast ones I get at over a megabyte a second (...) (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Website Host speeds

(...) If you can find a traceroute server close enough to your location, I think it would provide a somewhat accurate representation of what you want. Go to Google and search for "traceroute" -Orion (21 years ago, 9-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Website Host speeds

Does anyone know of a good way to compare the speed of website hosts that does not involve pinging? I'm particularly interested in comparing the speeds of: www.bldesign.org (currently hosted by atlnetworks.com) www.scibrick.org (hosted by (...)   Re: Three updated and one new Mortar Headd!

(...) Diamond Comics, why that's where I work! But we don't seem to have any new Mortar Headd items yet. That's not to say that it's not in the works (I'm too lowly to get the good dirt). Remind me and I'll look into it. Aaron S (21 years ago, 4-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, FTX)

  Re: 486-33 8Mb

(...) I don't think 6.1 would install without 32 MB of ram -- that's when they went to the python-based installer. And 8.0 and 9 require at least double that again. :) (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: announcing TrackDraw (BrickFest preview)

  Re: 486-33 8Mb

(...) Depending on the application. A Firewall/NAT doesn't need much of anything, especially if it's doing the logging to a network syslog server. 8M should be plenty for that :) Of course, my 486 is running RH6.0, because the newer versions didn't (...)
