I was wondering if any of you could give me some advice on the odd behavior of
my monitor (Compaq 700T Trinitron)...
A few months ago, right after the warranty expired, my monitor started
randomly blinking off and back on about once every couple hours. The power
light goes off, the image disappears, and then the light comes back on and the
image comes back. This happened regardless of power cable or power outlet.
Recently, this has started happening more often. Sometimes, when the light
comes back on, the image doesn't. I've usually fixed that by turning the
monitor off and back on again. But last night and once this morning, that
didn't work either. I took out my video card, brushed it off a bit, and tested
a different monitor on it...didn't notice any problems. I tested the 700T
monitor on another machine...no apparent problem. I hooked my monitor back up
to my own machine, and the image didn't show up. Turned the monitor off and
back on, and it worked fine. Hasn't cut out yet...but who knows when it will.
Does anyone know how I can exorcise the poltergeist?

The lil' bugger started to do the blinky after you'd left it on for a few minutes. Until one day I tried to turn it on and it (...) (23 years ago, 19-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
