I've always hated it. Historically, the reason it uses Times Roman (or else
the browser's default) rather than Courier (or whatever <PRE> results in) is
because the default fixed-width font in both NN & MSIE on low-end 640x480
displays (common in libraries and not uncommon at home for older audiences)
is too wide -- forcing horizontal scrolling. I didn't have success shrinking
the font size with CSS -- what worked on Windows didn't work on Macs and vice-
versa. Open to suggestions -- would love to do the right thing via a non-
klugey cross-platform solution.
