Folks out there must have Palm Pilots, is it worth
the extra money to step up to IIIx instead of starting

I have a IIIx.  I bought it mainly because I wanted more RAM (4 megs)
instead of less with a cool case - the V.  Haven't kept up with the
specs on the other models - I assume the IIIe has 2mb?

I figure more is better, and since IIIx's were going for $300 when I
got mine but I only paid $124.50, I thought it was a great deal.  I've
helped a friend of mine get his for $160 or so.

Accompany.com usually runs the IIIx at a good price, especially if you
use a good %-off coupon.  They don't have one running right now, but
you can get the Palm V for as little as $203.96 if you're interested
in that.  I've got details for getting 20% off on my main page at
mikesdeals.com - check it out.  And look for the new PHP3/MySQL
version hopefully by this weekend.

Oh, for the curious, I got my Palm IIIx from Value America, which I do
not recommened to people I like since they delayed and delayed and
delayed on a couple of my orders and just plain didn't deliver one.
Potentially awesome prices, but not worth the hassle imo.  Accompany,
however, as a "more buyers bring the price down" place was good to me
on the one thing I ordered from them - a Toshiba 6109c.

Back to the advantages question, I'd say more memory.  More memory to
hold more data and more apps.  More is always better, especially when
you're talking about such small quantities.

To be honest, if I could find a heckuva deal on a Visor Deluxe I might
get one of those.  I know someone who has the 8mb version with an 8mb
expansion in it.  Looks cooler too.  :)

(...) The IIIe is also not flash upgradable. Not a death-knell type flaw, but it does shorten the lifespan. That's more important than the RAM, I think. Mike, how much of your 4MB are you using? I've got a IIIx too, and I barely have more than 1MB (...) (24 years ago, 29-Feb-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
