  Re: Transit Time to Mars

The 1G for days is what's hard to believe, given current technology.... (25 years ago, 15-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Transit Time to Mars

Basic physics word problem, which I thought of because of NASA's publicity about renewed Mars exploration, and putting people on Mars: If a spaceship could accelerate at a constant rate of 1G, how long would it take to get safely to Mars? Assume the (...) (25 years ago, 15-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Xmas virus? Or a hoax?

(...) Several hoax detection clues are: 1. It says "This is not a hoax." 2. It gives authoritative-sounding sources (IBM, CBS, the FBI, AOL, antivirus software makers) without giving references. Any real warning would give a pointer to a web page at (...) (25 years ago, 15-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Elf Bowling--virus?

I checked with both Norton's and Network Associates web sites and they both confirmed it is a hoax. From a system administrative point of view, I couldn't be happier that it is. You wouldn't BELIEVE how many of our people are playing that game... My (...) (25 years ago, 10-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Elf Bowling--virus?

(...) I believe virus warnings from TWO places- my sysadmin at work and McAfee's site. I NEVER beleive anything that is "please pass this along to evreyone you know" Almost always a hoax. Chris (25 years ago, 10-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: New 2000 sets in Lego.com European catalog!

(...) This is very odd, as they're still there for me. Maybe because I'm in a European (.co.uk) domain when I'm surfing? Mind you, doing all those reverse DNS lookups must be costly. (Added .off-topic.geek for technical discussion, if it (...) (25 years ago, 10-Dec-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)
