Bitstring vector to list conversion in Perl5

Anyone know of a super-efficient way in Perl5 to convert a sparse bitstring vector to a list of integer-offset values (just the 1-bits) in Perl5? That is, if you had some $v that was created like so: my $v; my @n = (...some sorted sparse list of (...) (24 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  8-bit floating-point number representations?

Anyone know of a good C library that efficiently implements conversion from a processor-native 'double' floating-point precision number to some standard form of an 8-bit floating-point number and back? And a Perl5 library to go with it? An array of (...) (24 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) I like Java. But this really needed to be close to the metal and generate code that would fit in the L1 cache for the non-memory-bus-bound portions of the loops. The GNU C compiler is incredible. (...) It's the best C code I've written in 12 (...) (24 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) All geeks capitulate sooner or later on perl vs C. Of course Larry (and many others I work with) would tell you to write that stuff in Java but that would be a step backwards. Congratulations! Of course it's stability depends greatly on your (...) (24 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Ya, exactly -- first name the URL components carefully and then put a user- friendly level on top of it. Best of both worlds. (...) Ah, I see. Yeah, that could be helpful in certain cases, if you're scouring tons of results! I've needed to (...) (24 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Logo for mobile phone

(...) It's indeed the Nokia 8110. Some special version since it has an "open panel" with a spring via a button. Mine is highly manual. The phone itself sucks. It's about as twistable as the 8448 Super Street Sensation (not that the 8448 sucks or (...) (24 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Logo for mobile phone

(...) I think that was the Nokia 8110, which is not available anymore. But there are many phone which have the same looks, for example 7110, 8850 and 8890. (3 URLs) I don't like phones which require a panel to be opened in some way to be operated. I (...) (24 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Suggested CD-R(W) Burner programs

(...) Hrmmm. Is this in a Compaq computer? That was the first thing my irc buddies asked me about it. They all seemed to think it more likely to be hardware than software, given this is essentially a "no-name" burner. Still, you might as well give (...)   Re: News search function reactivated (was: News search function temporarily disabled)

(...) Wow! So you have terms for the ampersand options in a URL? My standpoint on this would be to put everything in a form and kill 2 birds with 1 stone - not having to think of how to name URL terms (unless you enjoy doing that) and having the (...) (...) LG Electronics CD-RW 8x4x32x Internal Rewritable Drive CED-8080B A blank 80 minute CD shows up the same as a 74 minute one under "My Computer"...ie, labeled "-empty-" with 0 used and 0 free space. (...) oops, doy! I didn't put in the propagation of that URL term. I don't consider it 100% "documented" yet (it's still subject to change without notice), but I still shouldn't have missed that.   Re: Suggested CD-R(W) Burner programs

(...) Are you sure it isn't your burner that doesn't recognize the 80 minute blanks? What model do you have? I know that when 80 minute blanks first hit the market there were a lot of CDRs that wouldn't burn on them. (24 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Suggested CD-R(W) Burner programs

The program that came with my CD-RW drive (just!burn by CeQuadrat--includes cd!backup, just!data, and just!audio) doesn't seem to recognize the 80 minute CD-Rs I just bought ($17 for 100 CDs!). Does anyone have a suggestion for a burner program that (...) (24 years ago, 3-Jan-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Not yet, no. See "to-do soon" section in previous post. (...) For now, if you don't mind URL mucking, you can manually append &qs=<number> to the URL and it will use that number (in seconds) as a time delta. For example, to limit posts to the (...)   Re: When did the 3rd millennium start?

(...) No we don't need to renumber all the previous years. We just need to give the year 1 BC two names. Or we can be non-anal about it and accept that to the average person, it makes more sense that the millenium starts in 2000 not 2001. On the (...) (24 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: When did the 3rd millennium start?

(...) Doesn't matter. It's the *2001st* year since we started counting. Not 2000th: I think that's what you're missing. *Last* year was the 2000th year; that's why it was called "2000". (...) Well, as I said in my post, you are *in* your 38th year. (...) (24 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
