Didn't PC-DOS have a bunch of really cool features that MS-DOS never
had, such as reliable task-switching and reliable disk compression,
among other things?

Well, disk compression sucks whatever the platform, and task-switching
without the facility to see both programs at the same time, and
preferably at least semi-true multitasking, so both run at the same
time, is only half a solution. Besides, the only reason to use DOS
today, is either for games compatability, in which case PCDOS sucks
because it sin't compatible, or low hardware requirements, in which
case it's almost always better to use MSDOS without all the nifty
features.

Ah, so you're gonna run X on that 386/16 with 4 megs?  :)
Errr.. You prolly could, if you're just planning on running several
Xterms... which was kinda the thing I meant.

Actually, right here, i was just talking about DOS. You run DOS to
play Doom, is about my assessment of the current situation in OSes :)
