It's not. A meter is a little over 39 inches; a yard is 36. A furlong maybe?
Something perhaps for us to fathom (please, no, don't send me to

(Actually, this just shows how confusing it is. Fortunately, all of my engines'
thrust is measured in a consistent unit. ;) )
