Au contrare, mon frere.  While it certainly has a lot of undesirable
attributes -- it was directed with teen-agers in mind, it starred Mr. Fox,
it had music by Huey Lewis, it introduced new slang terms into everyday
lingo, etc. -- the movie still fits my definition of literature.  It has a
plot, it has believable characters, (I believe) it would stand the test of
time, and it has a moral.  (1)  Not the best literature, sure, but something
worth seeing at least twice.

I had this same discussion with my high school English teacher -- the same
who got me hooked onto Bob Dylan and Guns N' Roses.  I figured if these
"musical artists" were literary sources worth study, then so was _BTTF_, and
we should watch it in class.

I lost that one, though.  We watched Antigone instead.  :-,

...more difficult rapiers to swallow?

1.  The moral?  Billy Joel said it best -- and says it at the end of each of
his shows.  Unfortunately, this is a family newsgroup, so I won't say it
here.

(...) I wouldn't call BD or GnR literature either. By any stretch of the imagination. Worthy of study? possibly. But literature? Not in my definition. And why would you want to watch it _again_ in class? I & III, the good ones, are on every 4-6 (...) (26 years ago, 12-Mar-99, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
