Government should protect us from ourselves??? This is an absurd statement in
my mind (see my statement about avoiding personal responsibility), but I sense
a fundamental disagreement here as to the purpose of government and will agree
to disagree.

Scott Simpson in the post above differentiates very well the difference
between ending the life of an innocent fetus, and ending the life of a brutal
murderer, etc. My statement assumed unjustified taking of a life. Government
executions of convicted criminals are just (assuming a fair trial).
