I haven't seen a homeless CHILD in years.

Which is good, but doesn't mean that they are not there.

Trot them out, then. Or far better, and far far far more relevant, answer the
main point, that most (not all!!!) homeless Americans deserve it because of the
choices they made. Unlike almost all homeless Ugandans or Tibetians or Kurds or
Azerbaijani or Brazilian Indians or Tamils or Bosnians who merely had the
misfortune to be living under a thuggish regime or next door to one with
territorial ambitions (Arguably they didn't stand up and fight for their rights
so they "deserve it" too, but that is a 1000 times harder argument to make,
don't you think, than claiming that some loser who drank up all his money for
20 years deserves to be homeless??)

That America, although the best country in the world since the
ChiComs overran Hong Kong, isn't perfect? Stipulated.

As LUGNET is an international forum, that statement is hardly going to go
without comment! Best for somethings, not best for others...

I'm making an aggregate assertion, you are trying to slice and dice. Overall,
the US is the best country. Certain other countries may be better in certain
areas. The Netherlands springs to mind if the topic is drug legalization, but
other than that, for the most part, if we're talking about an actual GOOD
thing, the US is on top. (except maybe for beer, it's hard to top a good
Guinness.)

Agreed - that seems to be a general pattern, but there are other ways to • attain
freedom, not neccessarily similar or dissimilar to Libertarianism.

Do tell. I'm listening.

(...) No, I don't think I could agree with that.. but I guess finding someone who has worked with the homeless could provide a more substantial opinion. (...) If I ever figure out all of the details I'll be sure to let you know. Richard (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
