The identification of Behemoth is less clear. And as far as I recall, in Job, Yahweh does not boast of defeating Behemoth, merely of having created him. But he does note that only his maker could defeat him (with a sword).

Alas, the boasts about Leviathan and Behemoth I left out, partly because they might only serve to confuse the reader. Perhaps one day I’ll compile all the Bible’s references to Yahweh’s primordial battle with Leviathan and illustrate those as part of “The Creation”. Hmmm.

Hi!

When looking into The Book of Job again (latest Swedish version from 2000) I noted that, as you correctly says, Yahweh created Behemoth, not defeated it. I have read somewhere that Behemoth is a Hippopotamus, which fits well to Yahweh’s descrition if it. I’m sorry I don’t remember exactly where I read it.

I also must say it was a very wise choice to shorten the speeches!

At least 2 sources I’ve read claim it was a dragon. Here’s one of them.

A devastatingly brilliant member of LUGNET commented on this very subject a while back. Read his wisdom here and be forever changed.

Dave!
