You're not alone in that regard, alas. Gas prices in my area have jumped $.32
in the last 32 hours, and I expect another bump overnight. That's hardly an
increase of 100%, but it still stinks mightily!
Unfortunately, oil supply isn't the problem; we simply lack the refinery
capacity to put out much more than we're putting out at the moment, which is a
catastrophic lack of foresight for which someone should be held accountable.
Dubya is, alas, only partly to blame for all of this, though his disastrous
foreign policies certainly aren't helping anything. Whatever happened to that
wide-eyed presidential candidate who, in 2000, opined that a president should
"jawbone" OPEC to get the "spigots" open? And that was when gas was about $1.50
per gallon!
O, for the days of cigar/intern scandals!
Suffice it to say that this amounts, frankly, to price-gouging and war
profiteering; oil companies are scoring record-breaking profits even as the
price per barrel is likewise hitting record-breaking levels.
Does anyone doubt that if a Democrat were in the Whitehouse, he'd have been
impeached by now for doing exactly what Dubya has done/is doing?
Oh. And coming back from a month-long vacation is not "cancelling his
vacation," as the Dubya-friendly media have been reporting.
Dave!

| The price of gasoline here in the States has been too [@#$%&*] high all during Bush II's reign, and now (thanks to H. Katrina) they're getting higher! I've heard that Gov. Perdue (GA) has ordered gas stations to close tonight at 4:30pm here in (...) (19 years ago, 31-Aug-05, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
