I have a lot of respect for Dan and what he does at BL, to call him a “crazed dictator” is silly.

Ok, that comment might have been over the top, but from my point of view, so was Dan’s decision to boot Larry.

...because Dan saw a simple idea which he invested his time and cash in. Anyone else could have done the same (e.g Todd), but only Dan actually had the gumption to do it. Bricklink has revolutionised some aspects of this hobby; for that Dan deserves your thanks - not your contempt!

I’m not debating that BrickLink helped the hobby, I’ve certainly benefited from it’s presence. As for Thanks, I thanked him every month when I was selling parts, with a check (and you know they say that money speaks louder than words) and as a customer, when I buy parts he is getting 3%. However regardless of what good someone has down, I can still find fault with some of their actions. In this case, I think a little more conversation between Dan(Admin) and Larry could have resulted in an amicable solution.

Look at what has happened. The seller deliberately continued to break the ToS! Given that Dan has a duty to protect buyers; how else could he react? You appear to be suggesting he should have renegotiated the ToS!?

Hmm. I’m not sure it’s “unique” in that respect. Have you heard of this website: www.ebay.com? Or even Amazon’s “Marketplace”?

Ok, you got me there, there are a few others who have similar business models, but 99.99% of the businesses out there are using the more traditional method.

I think its clear to me and everyone else that if there were other names involved in this, there would be no discussion. However, as this thread goes on, there is more and more speculation, name calling, flaming, etc. going on. Since Dave and Larry are clearly the only people who know the true story, I would ask both of them to post their sides of the story for the public to read. Both members are an intregral part of the community, for better or for worse. I think they need to be heard before judgement is passed (regardless of past history).

(...) **snip** We Daves know many stories, some of them true. I suspect that you probably meant Dan in this context, but on behalf of my namesakes I thank you for including us! Dave! (20 years ago, 23-Aug-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)
